The higher elevations of Griffith Park can be extremely congested with heavy traffic and limited parking opportunities especially on weekends, holidays and during the Summer. The easiest option to visit the Griffith Observatory or to hike to a view of the Hollywood Sign will be to use public transit, the DASH Observatory shuttle, which is available 7 days a week,

Everyday – 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
*The bus runs on Mondays, even though the Observatory building is closed.

Shuttles run every 15—20 minutes. Last shuttle to depart from The Griffith Observatory is at 10pm.

Avoid the hassle of traffic congestion and parking fees and use public transit. It is fast and convenient. DASH Observatory is the official transit provider into Griffith Park. it connects at the Sunset/Vermont Metro station and makes stops through Los Feliz village, The Greek Theatre, Mt Hollywood hiking trail and the front lawn of the Griffith Observatory. Avoid the hassle of congestion and parking fees, use DASH Observatory.

Drive & Park

The area surrounding the Griffith Observatory is paid parking. Parking is enforced every day of the year, Monday-Friday 12pm—10pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am—10pm. Parking fees increase over peak season/holidays.

If there is no show at The Greek Theatre you may park for free in that parking lot and ride the DASH Observatory up the hill for .50. You will be dropped right at the front entrance of the building.

All parking fees dollars are reinvested back into Griffith Park to support park improvements, shuttles into the park, maintenance, security and more.

Bike

Those cycling to Griffith Park and Observatory must use paved park roads (not the park trails or fire roads) and may park and bike from public spaces around the park. The Observatory has several bike racks. (NOTE: You can no longer bike up East Observatory Road. That road is now one way down. You must take West Observatory Road to get to the Observatory.)

Walk

Those walking to the Observatory are encouraged to take one of the hiking trails which originate near the Greek Theatre or Fern Dell. There is public parking near all trailheads. CheckGriffith Park hiking mapsfor more information.
