"It's time to say goodbye"

Peter has specialised in treating sick or injured farm animals and when Skeldale decided to concentrate on smaller animals, he decided to go elsewhere so that he can continue working with larger breeds.

Julian Norton, Peter's former partner at Skeldale, has opened a practice back in Thirsk, which he runs with his wife, Anne. He is also a partner at Sandbeck Veterinary Centre in Wetherby.

Peter Wright, who was trained in Thirsk by Herriot himself, has more than 40 years' experience treating animals of all types and after leaving Skeldale Veterinary Centre, his old boss's original practice, he now works out of Grace Lane Vets in Kirkbymoorside, on the edge of the moors in North Yorkshire.

Peter Wright was born on October 2, 1956, and so is now 65-years-old. His wife Lin was reportedly 60 in April 2020 so it is believed she is now about 62-years-old.

'Peter and Tim will be remaining as partners in Skeldale, in partnership with Medivet. Julian will be leaving in order to pursue other interests, both in veterinary medicine and media, and he wishes Skeldale the best of success for the future.

From 2018 he worked at Rae, Bean and Partners in Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire. He moved to a new independent small animal practice – Sandbeck Veterinary Centre – in Wetherby, West Yorkshire in 2019 and, in March 2021, Norton opened the Thirsk Veterinary Centre with colleagues.

There was no job too difficult or too squeamish for Julian and Peter. Julian opened up to the Darlington and Stock Times about the reason why he left the practice and moved on. He said he was not happy with the direction the practice was taking and has since gone on to open an independent practice.

Norton is a mixed-practice veterinary surgeon living in North Yorkshire with his wife, Anne, and two children, Jack and Archie.

I particularly enjoy driving through Farndale and Rosedale and on to the North Yorkshire coast, visiting so many beautiful towns and villages in the coastline between Scarborough and Whitby.
