What should my brightness be on my monitor? ›

A brightness of 300 nits is considered to be the best average. It offers good visibility, makes colors pop on the screen, and prevents strained eyes. The most important tip is to adjust the screen brightness to your surroundings. If your surroundings become brighter, increase the brightness.

For instance, a screen with 200 nits brightness is suitable for indoor use, while for outdoor use, a screen with at least 500 nits is recommended. However, for HDR content, a minimum of 1000 nits is ideal. It's essential to adjust the brightness according to the ambient light and the content you are viewing.

The general rule of thumb is that if your screen seems like a light source in your room, that means it is too bright. On the other hand, if it is dull or gray, then your screen brightness is set too low. You want the overall brightness to be an approximation of your surrounding environment.

Switch to dark mode

Dark mode can provide relief from eye strain, especially if you're working at night or in a dimly lit room. If you're in a bright room, however, dark mode will strain your eyes more, so stick with a white background.
